Selecting our brief
I have chosen the short film brief for my media class this is an excellent idea since it gives me the opportunity to showcase a variety of creative and practical skills in a reasonable amount of time. Because a short film is more flexible than a larger production, I can concentrate on creating an engaging narrative, intriguing characters, and efficient use of camera, editing, and sound techniques. Additionally, it allows me to experiment with storytelling techniques and genre norms while still fulfilling evaluation requirements. All things considered, it’s a productive and interesting opportunity to demonstrate my knowledge of editing and creativity. My knowledge of filming, acting and editing from AS media last year, will really set me up well for this year in order to achieve a high mark. Producing a film opening last year has given me more knowledge on beginning a narrative which engages the audience through creating enigma. Now my challenge will be to create a complete narrative in this task.
Research tasks
Because social media enables producers to quickly reach big audiences and engage directly with potential fans, it is often used to promote movies and music. Trailers, teaser videos, behind the scenes information, interviews, and release announcements are frequently shared on social media sites including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Before a movie or song is released, FActual America claims that sharing interesting content on a daily basis helps build enthusiasm and anticipation. In order to boost visibility and persuade viewers to share material with others, social media also allows artists to use hashtags, short form films, and partnerships with influencers.
Gaining a social media following is essential because it builds a community of people who are interested in the project and are more likely to support it when it is delivered. Views, streams, ticket sales, and word of mouth advertising can all rise with a large fan base. Consistent branding, polished posters and graphics, countdown postings, behind the scenes images, audience participation through surveys and Q&As, and frequent updates regarding development or release dates are typical practices of music and cinema social media accounts. Social media is an efficient and cheap marketing tool for promoting creative media products because of these standards, which help sustain audience interest and promote participation. Task 2

I choose to analyse these social medias because both Bao and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar follow the conventions of a short film by telling a simple and focused story with strong visual storytelling and an emotional impact in a short amount of time, which is exactly what i am hoping to acheive with my short film. Using Instagram and TikTok would help promote my own short film because I could share trailers, behind the scenes content, posters, and countdowns to build excitement before release which will really help make it look more real and get the “audience” to partecipate in this. These platforms also allow me to interact with audiences, encourage sharing, and create a consistent brand through the use of colours, fonts, logos, and hashtags across different forms of media.
Task 4
I am planning on using Instagram as my social media platform. This is because Instagram is more angled towards all ages unlike Facebook which is more angled towards the older demographic and Tik Tok which is more angled towards the younger demographic. So Instagram is a great way to meet in the middle. The target audience for my piece is teenagers or people aged a bit older around 20-30 as well.
In order to make the account unique and appealing to my target audience, my branding will be centered around the mystery and thriller genre and will use a dark look, teaser photos, and a consistent darker themed colour palette. By sharing behind the scenes content, character details, countdowns, and brief teaser snippets that build tension and promote interaction, my social media will attract viewers and followers and draw attention. Regular updates, promotional posters, and mysterious captions that create suspense without revealing the entire plot are features of my social media account research that I will employ and draw inspiration from because they are successful strategies for promoting short films and maintaining audience interest.
Task 2

The hunger games
The postcard advertisement includes the film title, release date, main actors, and a tagline. This information helps audiences remember the movie and encourages them to watch it when it is released. The main image is Katniss holding her bow . This creates a sense of action, danger, and rebellion, which reflects the story of the film. Dark colours such as black, orange, and gold are used to create tension and excitement. The bold font makes the title stand out, while the fire imagery links to the film’s themes of survival and revolution. The dramatic colours, action imagery, and bold design clearly communicate that this is a dystopian action adventure film. The audience can immediately recognise the genre.

L A LA LAND
The advertisement includes the title, release date, award nominations, and the names of the lead actors. This builds excitement and gives the audience reasons to see the film. The postcard uses an image of the two main characters dancing against a city skyline. This creates a romantic and dreamy atmosphere that represents the musical genre. Soft blues, purples, and yellows create a magical and nostalgic feeling. The elegant font and vintage style match the classic Hollywood inspiration of the film. The bright yet soft colours, romantic imagery, and artistic design reflect the musical and romance genres. The postcard creates the same emotional mood as the film itself.
Task 3
After researching and analyzing several postcard ads, I discovered that the most successful ones pulled viewers in with powerful photography, distinct branding, less text, and an overall visual design. The media product’s genre and atmosphere were immediately given through the use of bold visuals, and the ads straightforward layouts made them simple to read at a glance. In order to portray the psychological thriller genre of my short film, I intend to use postcard advertising standards including a dark color scheme, a dramatic image, bold writing, and a brief, enigmatic tagline. While maintaining a minimalist style, I will also incorporate important facts like the movie’s title and release date.
