Production

Brainstorm

Our class was split into 3 groups of 3 and my group came together and came up with various ideas, we landed on choosing to produce a horror /thriller film as it is the genre we feel most comfortable in creating impactful meaning and is also the genre we have consumed lots of media from. We had very little difficulty deciding on our creative vision as we agreed on the majority of decisions.

Mood board

This mood board created by my other group members, they created this to visualize what we as a group thought our story looked like. They images chosen to signify the house and bedroom helped us choose our filming location. They chose images that matched the genre of the film after researching typical imagery of the horror genre

Location scouting

I was the location scout and i started researching places to film and found that a member of my groups house fit the mood we aimed for. the reason i chose this location was its ease of access to our group and how well it fit our overall tone and mise en scene. The Health and Safety of this location was tested by Oliver Maher (a member of my group). A few other locations were looked at but ultimately we as a group came to the collective deicision to go with an option that we know somewhat fit our vision and was the easiest option to get filmming permission for.

Individual roles and responsibilities

As a group we discussed and talked about the different roles and we decided that i was to be the Script writer and Location scout, I got these roles as my creative writing style fit our film’s tone the greatest. My first steps towards achieving in these roles was familiarizing myself with the mise en scene of our film, and this lead me to come up with the location

Production company logo.

As a group we came together and brainstormed many ideas and company names, we landed on using our initials to make the acronyms HOA and we decided to use this acronym because of its pre-established meaning of Homeowners Association, we kept the connotations of Houses and designed our logo around that key theme.

Script writing

I wrote the script for our production, this came with many challenges as trying to create the dialogue and stage directions posed a new challenge to me.

Storyboard

Our productions storyboard was created by my other two members of my group, some challenges we faced was adapting the script accurately into a easy to follow storyboard. The Storyboard was adapted from the script however it had to adapt to be more in line with what our group was capable of creating meaning that some things from the script had to be changed or removed.

Filming

As a group we came together and decided on a time to film, our biggest challenge so far has been deciding on when deadlines for our individual tasks this was a struggle as we could not decide on appropriate amounts of time to complete tasks.

Rough cut review

After editing the footage we were given the opportunity to show our class our rough edit. We created Microsoft Forms to give out to the class to get valuable feedback. In the form we asked open ended and closed questions allowing us to get the feedback required for us to vastly improve our film.

Further Filming

We took this feedback and filmed more footage that better aligned with the meaning we were trying to create. We then added this onto the final edit. Some of the changes we made helped the audience better understand the plot and what the main character was going through. Other changes we made helped increase the sense of tension within the audience
