Minor tasks – social media account.

Social media is used as an interactive way to market their short film – while also reaching a great deal of people. One example of this is the Wicked social media account that publicizes release dates and covers frequently asked questions among other things. The purpose of a short film having social media is to try and market their film/raise awareness about it. They need this public awareness because without it, it would mean a drop in people buying movie tickets as it may fly under peoples radar. This leads to less revenue and thereby, less profit (if any). Also, having a social media following allows the film to interact with its target audience, resulting in the audience feeling as if they are more engaged with the release of the film, which can increase profit as more people will buy tickets

Typical conventions of a social media account of a short film include brand colours, release dates, FAQ, fanart display, These aim to make the target audience feel more involved with the release of the film, and to provide useful and imperative information.

I decided to use instagram as my platform of choice. I chose instagram over something like TikTok because I feel like with instagram, there is more of a focus on text content – not just short form videos. I also think that my target demographic of human and audience will likely be on Instagram. On that topic, my target audience is people who are interested in watching short films from film festivals and are of a younger age (late teens). I will aim to brand all of the movies’ awards that it has definitely won. It will look similar to the stuff I’ve been researching. I will aim to farm engagement by utilising Eye catching visuals, hashtags to help push my content out there to the algorithm, and brand image. I will also try to emulate the style of the ‘all these creatures’ instagram page because of how professional and well made it looked. For example, I will for sure use the big awards that the film has won on the thumbnails.

Post card advertisement, Minor task research

A postcard advertisement is a piece of paper with visuals on both sides. And it is used to raise awareness about whatever its advertising. Typically a postcard advertisement will consist of visuals It usually includes information such as release dates. I clearly understand that a poster and a postcard advertisement are different and used differently. The cost of production is less, and they are much smaller, as the intended purpose is to carry them home and refer to them later. unlike a big fat poster which obviously, you cannot fit inside your pocket. making the post card advert superior.

The image above is an advertisement for one of the greatest films of all time, Transformers 1. we can see clear themes here, especially in the colour grading, the orange hue that surrounds manhattan is contrasted by the black above, which is a reference to space – where the transformers come from. this is further emphasised by the three faces of the franchise hovering in the area between earth and space. the purpose of doing this is to quickly and clearly convey to the person seeing the poster advertisement that this movie takes place in both earth and space (further proven by the slogan at the top “their war. our world) and that the movie is likely about cool alien robots coming to earth and killing each other. the font is also a unique piece of branding. the chunky robust form of the lettering compliments the metal robots that invade and protect the planet.

Another amazing movie and true story, Black Hawk Down. this movie released in 2001, and was an instant hit. the colour grading reflects the harsh desert climate of somalia. the red streaks running across the poster may represent the bloodshed and the lives lost at the stake of the mission, visually representing to whoever is seeing the poster that this film is metal. the slogan ‘leave no man behind’ is a long standing principle within the American defence force, and its impact is extremely prevalent with the plot of the film and the real life story.

the movie “the silence of the lambs” is a classic thriller film. I thought this may be useful since our film is a thriller/murder mystery. to start, this posters main focal point is the vibrant cicada with the unique skull shaped pattern on its back. this not only contrasts with the blue/silver toned grainy background, but clearly sets the expectations to the viewer and creates an enigmatic atmosphere. the other focal point is the girls red eyes. in nature, humans generally do not have red coloured eyes. this creates a
