Prelim Task One – Camera Techniques practice
To show our learning and demonstrate our understanding of camera techniques and the creation of meaning we went around school to try use a range of different camera angles to easily show and convey different purposes and meaning. Below this is the work me and my group did on this task, We found that it was easy to show a large variation of camera angles e.g. an over the shoulder shot. However, it was challenging to find the best location for each shot, with some locations not allowing us to convey certain meanings as well as we would want like suspense
Preliminary Task 2

For this task we were given the prompt “you haven’t left the house in months” and were tasked to plan out a short scene in small groups. Me and my group decided to split the work equally among us with one doing the mood board, another looking at the different techniques to use, and me making the storyboard. Overall i think i could of gone a bit more in depth with the storyboard, diving more into the plot and small details when describing the scene. However it went very well splitting the work between us as beforehand we made a good plan, making sure we were all on the same page on what the short scene would be like for when we started planning it.
Preliminary Task 3 Pre-production
For this Prelim task we are making a scene being 30 seconds – 1 minute long in a group of 3 of us. With the only criteria being that we must include the phrase “He’s gone” somewhere in our short film along with a prop with our filming supposed to make it a prop of significance. After our whole group coming together and spending a significant amount of time brainstorming on ideas, we ended up deciding on the concept of a comedy movie, with two characters (who don’t know each other) having a phone call after one of the characters friends leave the room. We then ended up splitting the pre production tasks between us, with us coming together to produce a story and mood board, along with brainstorming a range of different ideas before ultimately deciding on a short comedy film.
Preliminary Task 3 Filming
For our task in making a scene we as a team decided to film in the school staffroom/on the field with the background being a small hill. This fulfilled our criteria in what we wanted, as it allowed us to make the two characters taking the call, appear in two completely different locations, giving one a sense of randomness, with their location almost appearing to be in the middle of nowhere. My responsibilities during our short scene was mostly acting, as the character i played ended up having the most roles/screentime. I found the filming process to be lots of fun even if there had to be lots of reshoots/retakes, with it getting to be my first attempt at acting. However we ended up quickly meeting some problems with lots of sound disturbances interfering with our filming e.g. other people’s conversations in the background. To try fix this we ended up filming a voiceover at a later time and attempted to voice sync it with our other takes. After learning from our experience filming something differently i want to do during my coursework piece is attempting to do more of the filming with diving more into thinking about different camera techniques to use when filming, along with working with the filming equipment.
Preliminary Task 3: Editing and the final cut
When editing all of our filming footage, i thought it would be best if i used Adobe Pro Premier, as i believed this would be the tool we would use later in the future so i thought it would be good for me to adjust/get used to it early, along with getting some early experience. Because it was my first time editing anything overall i am fairly happy with how it turned out especially halfway through the edit, where one scene almost linked up perfectly with another as i was picking up a phone. However because it was my first time, just opening Adobe Pro made me feel overwhelmed quickly, along with very confused when i was importing all the files and figuring out what i wanted to do. Going into our next coursework task, I will remember all the simple basics of what I’ve learnt about editing whether its cutting down scenes, or trying to make it have continuity as this will help give me much more time to explore new things to do when editing.
