start of planning
we have started to create ideas of our thriller horror were we first talked about the main character would be a student who would reading a case about missing people on the bus were all the missing people would also be on that bus but would change this in the following days we kept the idea of the mc reading a missing person case though.
Our ideas were very open at the start of our plan with the idea of filming on a bus but we relished that it would not be possible to have a steady camera the entire time we film so we had to switch our idea.
Story board
our first story board was a story of a junior detective going to a cafe were they would walk in and talk to the cashier for a drink then to sit down receive their coffee.
we made way more frames than we needed in the end but it made it so we were very organized when we went to film we used the story board to make our film opening smooth so i think we did a good job making the story board.
Mood board
in this mood board I found images of buses and missing people with dark eerily and unsettling were we had ideas of shops and busses to add to the ambiance and enigma. With horror thriller vibes were we can build tension and draw out anticipation from an audience is what we were trying to show with the mood boards aesthetics.
The mood board was useful to pin point our ideas in to one place were we had a rough idea of what we wanted for our film opening while having the idea for missing people while we discussed toghter on our plot were we chose to in the end having people.
production roles and responsibility
We decided roles during this class
Script: Yan tong who will write the most believable linguistical script.
storyboard: Joel would show his Innovative idea’s were he generates numerous instances of excellent ideas for our story board.
location scouting : Bruce (me) & Yang tong I have found a local police station were we can film already other locations can be found later down the line while Yang tong got connections to a local restaurant.
health and safety: Bruce (me) During filming I would keep the crew informed of dangers.
costume & story board: Joel would be making props for our film.
Location finding
I decided the police station in constellation road would look nice for the starting scene. the scene was originally going to introduce the main character but was changed and we didn’t use it in the end.
The other scene will be a restaurant i suggested that we look for a local food chain. Wong Kitchen was found by Yang tong.
The location was used to film the scenes.
mock film
We went on location to do a mock film the mock film was filmed at 8pm and went on for a hour were we made a short mock of the film as much as we could with the limited time we had.
we needed to add lots of color grading to the mock. we learnt that we needed to fix the lighting more during our filming so we don’t need to edit as much. we also ran in to the problem of not having enough shots to make the mock flow well so we will film more during the actual film.
HEALTH AND SAFTY
There was lots of tripping hazards from the wires we had but we had no tape to hold the wires down so we improvised with bags on top of the wires so it was noticeable so no one tripped over the wires. we used a smoke machine that obscured our vison but we had extra lights so we could see through the smoke while we filmed. We had a trusted adult to show us how to wield the cleaver safely. I had warned the filming crew that the scene can have risks of injurie if not handled with care.
I look back to my role as health and safety I reflect that we could have had more safety were we would have taped all the wires off the floor but we did not have any I think if I were to film again i would just bring tape.
some reflecting on filming
Our filming went well I believe. We did improvised some scenes but all the scenes we improvised were very good for our final edit.
The last scene was added on a whim but the effect of cutting away whilst the main characters head was about to get cut off was a refreshing take to add to our thriller horror theme.
Feed Back
The feedback we got was very positive most people that answered our form. They had a high regards towards our film opening. Some critiques that we received would be the lanyard we used having the Un youth tag making it seem as the adult character seem more younger than we wanted giving the wrong effect of a senior detective.
We finished out editing on sound so the sound was complete for our final copy while incorporating an effect at the end that would help the audience have an idea of what happened while not giving away our plot as it cut to black.
The Lan yard was edited to not show un youth during the starting scene to not look out of place.
