Essay research. 1

In class we have been learning about the Macro Element Genre. Both Nick Lacey (Repertorie of Elements Theory) and Steve Neale (Genre Theory) agree that genres change over time, however a set of common conventions help the audience to relate to a text. Neale discusses that a combination of familiar elements and new, unfamiliar conventions are what keep texts innovative and interesting.

Here is my essay on how the genre of action has changed over time due to socio-cultural influences, audience preferences and technological developments.

The action genre has changed over the years were the technological advancements increased as well as the impact of the audience over the years with the social and cultural influence on action.

Technology has advanced a lot within the past few years alone with the uprising of A.I and visual effects the action genre has improved. An example of this would be fast and furious were they have high speed chases and explosions and building collapses. They use CGI and green screens to fake setts compared to the past where they would need to use an on-site location to film while causing explosions. These effects can give a sense of rush and adrenaline from the actors making the audience feel the emotions on screen conveying what the director wants. The change from the past has made the action genre more exiting for the viewers and the effects can be done more safely for the actors as well without the actual need to put a real explosion to show without harm although some directors still choose to do real stunts with real explosions to make the actors feel the actual heat making them act differently.

During the past tropes and genres of damsels in distress this has decreased due to the audience. The audiences’ preferences have changed like the people watching the movies and film in the past it was mainly the rich and white people who could go into theatres and watch but now the audience is everyone rich poor and ethnicity they don’t even need to go to a physical location.  While the audiences have changed the technology for the action genre has also made it so visual effects that draw the audience in as well as storytelling has improved were movies are trying to get moments were the characters can transcend the screen and be remembered for what they were. Genres like a damsel in distress has changed now to a more modern approach where the damsel can think for themselves and don’t need to rely on a male character to much take the Mario movie as an example the princess is capable of doing things on their own but gets captured due to plot convenience.

The changes in time and history have affected films as wars have decreased compared to the 1940 when ww2 ended. Films have changed culturally and socially. The first action movie the great train robbery had a male lead where they rob a train this film was a pioneer of its time with the effects and editing but now all action films have lots of effect and have a diverse range of actors like fast and furious 2 like Tyrese Gibson to Paul walker. The audiences preference to see different characters with different skin colour acting together making it easier to relate towards the characters the change of time and audience has made it so that the range of people seen on screen has improved as well as society’s views as a whole were racism affects films less and old tropes have gone away due to modern times were females are a normal part of society.

In the end the action genre has changed a lot over the years were the audiences and availability of films have made it possible for anyone to go and see a production with new technology making the films better while directors are improving on their story telling making the action genre better day by day.

Adobe premiere work shop. 2

In this work shop we learnt about how to use adobe premiere

in this lesson we did a Adobe Premiere work shop were we edited 6 clips that had multiple different takes we were given to make a short story with no sound.

This is the white board of everything we learnt in the lesson

I Remembered cutting the video up in to different short clips which i then put in to a line and added text that phased away over a few seconds

Film opening analyses. 3

In class we looked at 3 film starts were we analyses the establishing genre and character introduction, genre, film title and production logo, themes and topics.

It was a common occurrence were they started with their production name and then the credits of characters whilst the title of the film played. The title would fit the genre that was seen in the opening. while the lighting and mood also represented the themes. Some of them challenged gender stereotypes were a female in a horror film ran away instead of getting them selves trapped inside the house. All characters were introduced in the opening 30 seconds while these were thriller.
