Preliminary Task 1
The purpose of this task was to begin to apply our micro element knowledge to a practical project. We worked in small groups of three and were given the prompt of “You haven’t left the house in months. If you don’t leave today, you never will”. With this prompt we had to create a concept for a 30 second scene of a film and complete a pitch for the film. In this task we brainstormed ideas, made a mood board, created a storyboard and then made and presented our pitch. Through this task I learnt that storyboards are important and friends do not always make great group partners. Our audience feedback was in future I need to spell ‘Pinterest’ correctly and that our idea needed to be more original. In the next prelim task where we create a concept and film it, I want to focus on Mise-en-Scene and editing techniques.

Preliminary Task 2: Pre-Production
For this task we are creating a one-minute film in groups of 4. Our prompt includes the following criteria: must include dialogue of “He’s gone”, (We adapted it to “it’s gone”) must include a prop of significance, and there must be some kind of unanswered question. After brainstorming ideas based on this prompt my group and I decided on the concept of two men that robbed a bank to pay back debts owed to the mafia, but one of the men steals the money for himself. Leaving the other to face the consequences. This was within the action mystery mafia genre. We then divided up our pre-production tasks and I worked with Sean, Ben, and Liam on creating a mood board/storyboard for our piece.

Preliminary Task 2: Filming
For our short scenes we had decided to film in one of the music rooms. This is because we needed a dark room as a mafia meet spot. They also were convenient. My responsibilities during this part of the process were to bring 3 suits, the main prop (briefcase) and be acting + directing. I found the filming process really really fun and successful considering the time constraints. However, some challenges we met were lack of/unreliability of resources provided by the school. All we asked for was a camera, we were given two! amazing! both died within 5 minutes of filming and wasted a bunch of time. great. To overcome this we used an iPhone camera that had a much worse camera. Based on my experiences, something I want to do differently during my coursework piece is make the film longer.
I acted as mafia 2

Preliminary Task 2: Editing and Final Cut
For my personal edit of our footage, I decided to use Adobe After Effects because it is a superior platform to most other editing software’s and I have a lot experience with the program. I am pleased with the colour correction and Fx. Nothing at stood out as particularly challenging. From this task I have learnt that acting is really enjoyable.
My group and I all shared our personal edits and decided on my one to showcase to the class. We liked this cut the best because it was edited the best.
This was both my edit and the groups pick.
