Preliminary Task 1:
The purpose of this task was to begin to apply our micro element knowledge to a practical project. We worked in small groups of three and were given the prompt of “You haven’t left the house in months. If you don’t leave today, you never will”. With this prompt we had to create a concept for a 30 second scene of a film and complete a pitch for the film. In this task we brainstormed ideas, made a mood board, created a storyboard and then made and presented our pitch.
Through this task I learnt that I work efficiently and generally well when working in a group, in the way that i take initiative in making sure that our group is on task and giving ideas. Our audience feedback was that is was a good concept and pitch but that the look of the scene was unclear so in future I need to focus on implementing more micro elements considering aspects of mise-en-scene, and making the storyboard more visually appealing which will overall make the concept easier to understand when pitching the idea. In the next prelim task where we create a concept and film it, I want to focus on this as well as being more encouraging for more creative input from team members on the piece we are creating

Reflection On Preliminary Task 1:

After presenting our pitch to the class, we were given a sheet to fill out which has questions regarding the project and how it was to work with my group, while also evaluating my strengths and weaknesses when working in a group setting.

Filming Process
For our short scenes we had decided to film in a cafe , this is because the are was within our school where we would be able to spend class time filming our peice. the cafe setting also allowed us to explore the struggles that people with dementia face in real world senarios and everyday life. My responsibilities during this part of the process were planned to be acting as the main barrista aswell as filming some scenes and assisting the members in my group on ways to make their acting more effectie, aswell as suggesting different ideas we could do when filming that were different to our intial story board. I found the filming process to not be extreamly challenging, however we as a group still had to overcome some challenges that we faced, such as the managing the time we had to film, while having to deal with technical dificulties, where our camera that we were allocated had a dead battery, so we had to improvise and use one of our iphones, which did not allow us to have the best camera quality or sound that we wanted. Based on my experiences, something I want to do differently during my coursework piece is making sure that we have to right equipment to film our scenes such for better camera and mic quality

My Edit of our groups 1 minute film “He’s gone”
For my personal edit of our footage, I decided to use imovie to finalise our peice. I chose to use this softwhere instead of others as I already have experience with imovie, from editing short youtube vlogs, which I do in my spare time to document my summer or holidays I go on. Overall, I am pleased with the way my edit turned out and am very proud of how i was able to incorporate different non-diagetic sound techniques in a way which made the peice more authentic and realisitc while enhancing the element of mystery. Something that was challenging was trying to find certain clips and put them in in chronological order, while also trying to make the sound from the clips sound louder while not peaking. It was also hard, as this was my first time editing a short film, to have my ideas come to life with my little editing knowledge. From this task I have learnt that tutorials from online can be majorly beneficial when trying to edit, as they make the process far more efficient.
My group and I all shared our personal edits and decided on Jackson Edwards ’s one to showcase to the class. We liked this cut the best because he added in many different techniques to make the piece more enticing and was able to overcome with his editing the hard technical difficulties with sound, that others in our group were not able to edit out/ fix with editing.
