Brainstorm for groupwork music video<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the process of our brainstorm, a beginning to this music video had a concept of an easter egg of an “Immortal snail” an online viral trend of where you are given $10 million but an indestructible snail is chasing you for eternity and will kill on contact. What this did for me and my partner’s group thought is a metaphor for around fear, avoidance and constantly looking back, such as into the past, this sense of looking behind came from the beginning scene of arguing with parents and leaving home to get away, but all it causes is a prolonging of having to go back home, what we had in mind is that the exploration of many different scenes and locations will give a sense of time passing, slowly being a thought of forgetting problems as time goes along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the idea of our moodboard was based towards a dark gloomy low level lighting, a look into the life of someone trying to get away from their problems, the idea of burying emotion, reflecting a quiet struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not about despair, but rther about being in between space where someone is still figuring life out, surrounded by darkness not because they’ve given up<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production Pitch to the class<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Me and my partner Sean had done a pitch in front of our class of what our ideas were, and what our locations in mind were, additionally we had also explained our low level lighting ideas, an easter egg idea that had been explained was the “immortal snail” as a representation of running away from ‘your’ problems, that little easter egg in our music video gives a unique taste, as for some may realize, some may never understand. Some feedback that we had received<\/strong>, was to “Keep the parents hidden” as to not take away from the scene, “Keeping the immortal snail as an easter egg” it’s would just create that twist that other music videos will typically have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

rather then a shotlist we had decided on selecting a storyboard, the reason this was is to get our ideas down on paper, as it was a key factor in assisting us in how we wanted our music video to play out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This is a breakdown of the mise-en-scene decisions made for our filming production, specifically focusing on costume and accessories. Mise-en-scene refers to everything placed within the frame of a shot, and the choices made around clothing and accessories play a key role in communicating character, tone, and narrative to the audience.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Production Day One – Reflection<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our first and only production day, filming began outside Sean’s garage using my iPhone 13, which proved to be the more practical choice over a camera due to its portability and ease of use on location. Sean acted as our sole performer throughout the shoot. From there we moved to our next location at the local dairy nearby, before eventually taking a bus into Auckland city where we made strong progress with our footage. The total shoot ran for approximately three and a half hours, pushing into the semi-late evening before we wrapped and headed home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Upon reviewing the footage however, a technical issue became apparent. Since the material was captured on an Apple device, the file format created compatibility issues on my end during editing. Fortunately Sean works on a MacBook, meaning he was able to handle the major edit without the same limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


One thing that worked in our favour was capturing some unplanned shots of our locations throughout the night that ended up being genuinely useful in the final edit. However there is one clip that in hindsight needs to be reshot. At the time of filming a runner passed in front of the camera and my group member suggested leaving it in, feeling it would look natural. In the edit it did not work as intended, so refilming that shot is something we are considering despite the logistical difficulty of returning to the same location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Looking back, we also should have filmed more cycling footage to allow for smoother transitions in the final edit. This is something we will keep in mind if any reshooting takes place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
