This show is classified as a thriller and follows the narrative of a man named Mark who have just began to work for a company called Lumons, where employees have to undergo a procedure that divide their memories between work and their personal life. Mark woke up confused, he learns about his new job in another division since a co worker had quit. The episode introduces a new character Helly who is new to the company and is struggling to adjust. She tries to escape but finds herself trapped in the Lumons office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this episode we see key typical thriller conventions of mystery, different realities, and isolation these are shown through confusion around the severance procedure and the overall sercretive Lumons environment, the indentites of the employee&#8217;s &#8216;innie&#8217; and &#8216;outie&#8217; life can create physiological tension which can be seen when Mark&#8217;s innie self have no idea he is grieving his outie life, also the Lumons employees are all trapped in the office which can be seen when Helly tries to escape. It is usually clear and readbale to visually apeal to the viewers, the title will also  fit the genre the film is in. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Establishing the genre<\/td><td>It is important to establish the genre of the film right at the start so that targeted the specific audience will realise that this is a genre they might like and continue watching.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Character Introduction<\/td><td>During the opening, The main character can be introduced which shows the audience the significance they have to the plot, However in some films the main character aren&#8217;t introduced at teh start to create some mystery around the person or group. <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Topic\/Theme<\/td><td>The Topic and Theme is introduced at the start in the opening in order to give the audience a sense of what the film is likely to be about but without giving away to much infomation. This could be done using various mircro elements.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">In class we have analyzed a range of film openings to consider their conventions and how the film opening works to engage the audience. The supernatural elements of the opening attracts fans of fantasy as well as the visual presentation of the opening could also attract fans who are into fashion, since the character designs are very good.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>What is introduced in the opening? (e.g. characters, themes, setting plot)<\/td><td>Main character \u2013 Light Yagami, he is often seen as a godlike figure doing these poses and standing over the people below him. Elements of supernatural is also shown from the Shinigami and the death note Themes: Morality, justice, power and corruption and shown through religious imagery. Setting: Modern world Japan. Plot: The plot foreshadows the conflict between lights and people who oppose his view of justice.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Are there any narrative devices used? (e.g. flash backs, nonlinear storytelling, voiceover)<\/td><td>There aren\u2019t conventional narrative devices used in the opening, since death note is an anime opening it works more in a symbolic way than narratively. Symbolism: apples, god like poses and angles and demons Foreshadows: Light is seen above the crowd of people with L opposing him which hints at their conflict Contrast: Light is shown in bright light or in a elevated position while L is often seen in the dark which reflects they are binary opposites. Metaphor: The faceless crowd could represent that light sees people as statistics rather than individuals. Intertextuality: references to Biblical stories (The Creation of Adam, forbidden fruit)<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>How are micro elements used in the opening to communicate information\/contribute to the mood?<\/td><td>Mise en scene: Religious Imagery such as the Shinigami handing light the apple communicate themes of morality, temptation and god like power also the faceless crowd could show dehumanisation and control over them. Cinematography: High-contrast lighting and dramatic close-ups on Light which create tension and establish him as the main character. Shots of him above the city visually communicate he is better than the people around him. Editing: Fast paced cuts which are paired along the visual kei song \u201cThe world\u201d furthermore there is a clear distinction between light and dark imagery. The sound: The song \u201cThe world\u201d by nightmare is a heavy rock visual kei song which can add energy to the opening Colour: Red tones suggest while black-and-white contrasts emphasise the clash between good and evil<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>How are the credits presented in the opening sequence? What is the visual style of the credits and how does it align with the overall tone?<\/td><td>The credits are presented in a bold and simple font which contrasts against the dark and dramatic background. They are in sync with the song that is playing adding intensity to the opening &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td colspan=\"2\">Give the film opening a rating out of 5 and explain your rating. &nbsp;<br>I would rate it a 5 out of 5 because it is very effective at setting the tone and mood of the series. This moment has heavily influenced the way we built suspense and timing. Like in Death Note, we used the character\u2019s vulnerability to build tension; furthermore, we also experimented with the perspective of shots, highlighting Albert\u2019s control over the whole discovery situation while keeping the audience in suspense, which is similar to how Light manipulates people at a distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The first encounter with L and Light\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uuVufrmNc2A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our group as also taken inspiration from Childish Gambino&#8217;s &#8220;This is America&#8221; music video specifcally how it balances the lightness with the darker themes. In the video, the upbeat music and dances are suddenly disrupted by acts of violence creating a shift for the viewers to realise the unsettling realilty about society. This shows Marvel\u2019s origin in printing and reminds the audience of its long legacy. In the newer version of the Marvel production logo, instead of the comic pages, the flipping transition turns into live-action clips of MCU heroes, linking the comics to film. The colour red dominates the palette, connoting energy and power; it is very eye-catching for the audience, and it is seen as very consistent across Marvel branding. The font is a large, blocky sans-serif text that conveys strength. The white letters against the red background also contrast greatly with each other.
