- These are the points if words in the video is not clear
Collaboration and role division
This project helped me strengthen my teamwork skills by clearly dividing creative and technical responsibilities. Each person had specific roles from costumes to scriptwriting to post-production, but we also supported each other in overlapping areas. This collaborative process made me more adaptable and aware of how different production roles work together to produce a film opening.
Costume and prop use
I became more intentional with costumes to communicate character traits and roles quickly. Simple wardrobe choices, such as a suit for the protagonist and casual clothes for the antagonist, helped define their personalities without the need for excessive dialogue. This made me realise how much impact could be created only visually, which helps to establish tone efficiently in a short opening sequence.
Genre blending
Furthermore, working with multiple genres such as crime, thriller, and political drama has helped expand my understanding of how to combine conventions without confusing the audience. My group experimented with pacing, tone, and character archetypes to balance each aspect of a political thriller with the tension of a crime story. This taught me how genre influences audience expectations and how to subvert those expectations in engaging ways.
Research and inspiration gathering
Before production, I researched similar films and media, such as Death Note and This Is America, focusing on how they created suspense and explored moral ambiguity. I studied their use of cinematography, pacing, and sound, then adapted these techniques to fit Deep Six’s themes of digital piracy and corporate exploitation. This helped me build a distinct tone while still using proven genre conventions.
